Following acceptance tests in Ankara, Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defense has delivered the first serial-production E-ZPT electric armoured personnel carrier, developed by state-backed MKE. The program represents a practical evolution of the M113 modernization strategy, focusing on reduced acoustic and thermal signatures to improve battlefield survivability.

The E-ZPT leverages its electric propulsion to lower noise and heat emissions, making it less detectable to persistent ISR systems, handheld thermals, and aerial sensors. Lower sound levels mask movement in dense urban environments, valleys, and forests, while reduced thermal output during slow operations or brief stops complicates rapid enemy identification—providing crews a critical window to maneuver, dismount, or evade threats like indirect fire and loitering munitions.

Rather than designing a new vehicle from scratch, MKE modernized the existing M113 hull with upgraded running gear, suspension, electronics, and crew systems. This strategy maximizes field readiness, simplifies training and maintenance adoption, and enables faster fleet expansion.
