L3Harris Technologies has completed delivery of the first overhauled P-8A Poseidon aircraft to NAVAIR, initiating the U.S. Navy’s multi-year sustainment plan for its maritime patrol fleet. The upgrade, performed at the Waco, Texas site, includes deep maintenance, structural updates, avionics modernization, and component overhaul. Work began in early 2024 and will continue through September 2029 under a contract covering up to 139 aircraft.
This initiative is aimed at maintaining high mission availability across diverse roles, including ASW, anti-surface warfare, and ISR operations. L3Harris is currently refurbishing seven units and plans to induct up to nine aircraft during the first year. The scope of the contract also includes foreign military sales support.
