European shipbuilders Fincantieri and thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) have signed an industrial cooperation agreement to provide submarine capabilities to the Philippine Navy.
Under Manila’s Horizon III military modernization project, Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri is proposing its U212 Near Future Submarine as a component of the deal.
In partnership with TKMS of Germany, the Italian Navy is creating the submarine.
The submarine is a progression of the HDW Class U212A, with cutting-edge features like air-independent propulsion and minimal acoustic, magnetic, and visual signatures.
