The US Army is spending $107.8 million to develop and install modern protection systems for its tracked vehicles, improving the fleet’s survivability by utilizing cutting-edge technologies.
According to a US Department of Defense budget projection for fiscal 2026, this project fell under the category of Weapons and Tracked Combat Vehicles.
It has three packages for the ground platforms, namely top-attack protection kits, a signature management technology, and modular laser-enabled active protection systems. According to the plan, the initiative will improve early warning against enemy threats, lower the likelihood of thermal detection, and offer passive add-on armor to protect compartments and hatches from aerial intrusion.
The packages mentioned in 2024 or 2025 were not funded, according to several sources, indicating that the focus is on adjusting to changing enemy capabilities in contemporary warfare.
