The Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) has given Lockheed Martin a contract to develop a quantum-enhanced inertial navigation system prototype. QuINS, as the system is known, employs motion-sensitive quantum sensors to determine a platform’s position, velocity, and orientation. Even when GPS is not available, internal measurements enable precise navigation and position tracking. As part of the contract, Lockheed Martin will collaborate with Q-CTRL and AOSense, two other businesses.
