The U.S. military, in cooperation with Panamanian police forces, has launched a new set of joint exercises aimed at enhancing security around the Panama Canal. This move follows concerns about alleged foreign influence in the region, particularly from China.
On Sunday, two UH-60 Black Hawks and a CH-47 Chinook helicopter from the U.S. Army arrived at Panama-Pacific Airport to begin the operation.
The drills fall under a bilateral agreement that enables U.S. forces to conduct training at Panamanian air and naval facilities, while avoiding the establishment of a permanent military presence.
