The first of the eight P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) ordered by Germany was unveiled by the American aircraft manufacturer Boeing at its Seattle factory. It is anticipated that it will be delivered to Berlin by August 2025 as part of Germany’s initial order of five planes in 2021, followed by three more in 2023. The Poseidon is meant to take the place of the nation’s current fleet of Lockheed Martin-made P-3C Orions, which are scheduled to be retired this year and are used for submarine hunting and maritime patrol.
