Sweden has officially joined the list of nations operating Embraer’s C-390 Millennium, acquiring four aircraft as part of its air mobility modernization drive. The move aligns Stockholm with Austria and the Netherlands, creating a European C-390 user group within the NATO framework for cooperative operations and logistics.

This collective arrangement promotes joint training, interoperability, and shared maintenance, offering cost efficiencies and strategic alignment. Sweden’s purchase contract further includes access to Embraer’s support and training ecosystem and seven additional aircraft options available for other European countries.

Currently in active service with Brazil, Portugal, and Hungary, the C-390 has achieved strong operational metrics — maintaining a 93 percent mission readiness rate and completing over 99 percent of assigned missions.

Designed for versatility, the aircraft can carry 26 tons of payload, reach 470 knots, and function on semi-prepared or unpaved airstrips. Its mission profile covers cargo and troop transport, medical evacuation, search and rescue, and firefighting. The KC-390 variant also provides in-flight refueling capability, reinforcing its value as a multi-role tactical airlifter.
