“Airbus has won a contract to provide two more A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft for NATO.
The agreement, which includes deliveries planned for 2028 and 2029, will increase the alliance’s refueling and cargo fleet to 12 platforms.
The order was placed when Sweden and Denmark formally joined the Multinational MRTT Fleet (MMF) program of NATO, a framework led by the alliance’s Support and Procurement Agency to pool and distribute heavy airlift systems among member countries. The MMF initiative now consists of eight participating countries with the authority to run the fleet as a result of the addition of the other nations.
The new A330s’ manufacturing and related conversions will be made easier at Airbus’ facilities in Toulouse, France, and Getafe, Spain, according to the manufacturer.
