The U.S. State Department has authorized a possible $2.0 billion Foreign Military Sale to Australia for the sustainment and continued support of its F/A-18F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler fleets. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has submitted the required notification to Congress.

Australia’s request includes 60 Joint Tactical Terminal – Transceivers, 40 Advanced Electronic Warfare Systems, and 24 Next Generation Electronic Attack Units. Additional items in the sale include encryption tools, electronic warfare countermeasures, mission planning systems, spare parts, system upgrades, training, technical documentation, flight testing services, and long-term engineering and logistical support.

The proposed sale supports U.S. strategic goals by strengthening Australia’s defense readiness and its ability to contribute to regional and coalition operations. As a critical ally in the Western Pacific, Australia’s military capabilities play a vital role in maintaining peace and stability in the region.

The sale will not alter the existing military balance in the Indo-Pacific. Boeing will act as the lead contractor. No offset arrangements are currently in place, but they may be discussed in future negotiations.

The sale will require temporary on-site support by 25 U.S. government personnel and 15 contractor representatives in Australia to provide technical and program management assistance.

There is no anticipated adverse effect on U.S. defense readiness, and the final sale value may vary based on contract negotiations and Australia’s specific requirements.
