Spain’s F100 frigate fleet is set for a major modernization following U.S. approval of a $1.7-billion defense package aimed at sustaining the ships’ role in NATO air and missile defense. The upgrade includes enhanced Aegis systems, Mk 41 launchers, new radars, and a wide range of sustainment equipment and services. Designed to keep the vessels operational for another two decades, the program reinforces Spain’s naval air defense capability while deepening industrial and operational cooperation with U.S. defense contractors.
