Florida-based Serious Simulations was given a $28 million contract by the US Army to create simulated mines and grenades for training.
The new training mines and grenades have genuine components, such as a spoon, pull ring, and safety, giving them the appearance and feel of the real thing. a grenade clip, a firing mechanism, a wire spool, and a bandoleer for the Claymore package. However, the munition bodies use Serious Simulations’ exclusive proximity technology rather than explosives.
Upon deployment, the devices assess their distance to nearby soldiers or vehicles and ascertain if they would realistically be struck, killed, or unaffected. Furthermore, they account for barriers, which highlights the importance of seeking shelter.
The Universal Receiver Unit, which may be worn by troops or installed on vehicles, receives each result immediately and records “damage” findings in real time. feeds them into the Army’s Synthetic Training Environment.
