Sweden has placed an order with Saab for 22 combat boats worth 900 million Swedish kronor ($94 million).
Saab’s Docksta facility will manufacture the vessels, and deliveries are planned for the following years.
The most recent iteration of the CB90 platform is the CB90HSM, Saab’s high-speed combat boat.
Its improvements include increased speed, maneuverability, firepower, and situational awareness.
The most recent acquisition prior to this new deal was Sweden’s $38 million purchase of 10 next-generation combat boats in June 2024. The CB90HSM, which is made entirely of aluminum, is designed to carry troops and equipment at high speed while preserving stability and maneuverability in challenging environments.
The ship has an overall length of 16.3 meters (53.5 feet) and a hull length of 14.9 meters.
It can operate efficiently in shallow coastal waters thanks to its 0.9-meter (3-foot) draught.
When fully loaded, the CB 90HSM has a cruising speed of 38 knots (43 miles/70 kilometers per hour) and a top speed of over 40 knots (46 miles/74 kilometers per hour).
Its operational range is 300 nautical miles (345 miles/555 kilometers), which enables long patrols and quick response operations.
