Romania, a NATO member, has signed an agreement with Washington to acquire 32 F-35 jets, marking an unprecedented expenditure for the country bordering Ukraine. This acquisition makes Romania the latest nation to procure these combat jets, occurring more than two and a half years after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. With an estimated cost of $6.5 billion, approved by Romania’s parliament, this represents the most expensive military purchase by the Eastern European country, which has seen its strategic importance grow significantly since the conflict in Ukraine began.
