The Republic of Korea Navy will equip its future Ulsan-class warships with propulsion systems from Rolls-Royce, including its signature MT30 turbine, as well as diesel generators and propeller systems.
The contract supports Seoul’s $3 billion investment in next-gen warship construction, with the first two frigates being built by Hanwha Ocean. A total of six ships will receive the British-built propulsion technology.
The ships will feature hybrid propulsion, where diesel-powered electric motors operate during cruising and the MT30 turbine provides high-speed thrust, developed with the support of STX-Engines.
