New Zealand’s Air Force has delivered a fleet-wide NH90 modernization, focusing on software architecture, identification systems, and flight automation. The project was conducted at Base Ohakea, one of the RNZAF’s primary operational hubs.

The modernization has improved the fleet’s airborne identification abilities, helping differentiate between friendly and unknown aircraft via enhanced friend-or-foe detection. The system now also broadcasts ADS-B OUT signals, in line with New Zealand’s civil aviation safety laws.

The flight systems received a boost in precision as well—NH90 helicopters can now hover to a full touchdown, which was not possible before, offering more versatility during landing in difficult conditions.
