Rheinmetall Landsysteme is set to deliver 14 additional Leopard 2 A4 main battle tanks to the Czech Republic by the end of 2026, under a CZK 4 billion (approximately EUR 160 million) contract announced by the Czech Ministry of Defence on December 3, 2024. The agreement involves the refurbishment and partial upgrade of the tanks to meet Czech operational standards and may include units sourced from the Swiss Army’s inventory, following earlier Czech interest in 2023. Rheinmetall had already procured 25 Swiss MBTs, delivered in early 2024. This latest acquisition is part of the Czech Republic’s broader effort to modernize its armored forces by replacing Soviet-era tanks with Leopard 2 A4s, supported by German government financing. Since 2023, deliveries have comprised 28 Leopard 2 A4 tanks and two Büffel 3 armored recovery vehicles, with about half already received. With the new order, the Czech Leopard 2 A4 fleet is projected to reach 42 units by 2026.
