BAE Systems has secured a £453.5 million production contract from the UK Ministry of Defence to deliver the ECRS Mk2 radar for RAF Typhoon fighters. Developed in partnership with Leonardo UK, the electronically scanned radar will equip 38 Tranche 3 aircraft and is scheduled to enter operational service before 2030. The system represents a major upgrade to Typhoon’s sensor and electronic warfare capabilities, improving survivability and effectiveness in high-threat airspace. Manufacturing will be split between Leonardo’s sites in Scotland and England, with final integration conducted by BAE Systems in Lancashire. The contract sustains more than 1,300 skilled jobs and strengthens the UK’s sovereign radar and combat-aircraft expertise. As the RAF’s frontline fighter, Typhoon continues to perform NATO air policing and quick-reaction alert missions while evolving into a fully multirole platform.
