In accordance with national and international innovation priorities, the initiative’s effort to strengthen the research base will help approximately 100 defense companies. In furtherance of a foreign military sale agreement struck in 2022, the United States has sent more M1A2 Abrams main battle tanks to Poland. The tranche consists of 19 platforms equipped with the System Enhanced Package 3 setup, which enhances crew protection, maneuverability, and combat capabilities. After the handover, the vehicles will be transported to a military facility in Pozna? for in-country assessment mandated by the Polish Armed Forces. Additionally, the initiative will focus on resolving Vilnius’ long-standing deficiencies in the defense sector, such as inadequate initial funding, certification and testing infrastructure, poor coordination between agencies, and funding for innovation.
