The fourth and last minesweeping ship of the Awaji class was commissioned by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force in Tsurumi-ki, Yokohama. After being delivered from the Kanagawa-based Japan Marine United Corporation, which started the platform’s construction in 2021, a ceremony for the JS N?mi (MSO-307) was held. The system’s name comes from Hiroshima Prefecture’s N?mi Island. Following the navy’s Mikura-class escort ship in 1944, it was the second Japanese military vehicle to get the moniker.
