Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace and Safran Power Units have extended their long-term partnership for the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) propulsion system, solidifying years of successful collaboration. The renewed agreement includes a major order for hundreds of Safran’s TR40 turbojet engines.
For years, Safran Power Units has provided the TR40 engines that power the NSM, a missile that has become a key asset for NATO and European defense forces. The proven success of the system has led both companies to deepen their partnership and coordinate efforts to meet growing production demands.
This large engine order secures Safran Power Units’ production through the next decade, offering supply chain stability and allowing the company and its sub-suppliers to scale up efficiently.
The NSM, originally fielded by the Royal Norwegian Navy in 2012, is a next-generation anti-ship missile known for its high survivability and advanced performance against modern defense systems. It has since been selected by numerous countries, including the United States, Germany, Poland, Canada, Australia, Spain, Romania, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Latvia, the Netherlands, and Denmark.
