Israeli defense company RADA is accelerating upgrades to its radar systems supplied to Ukraine, using direct feedback from the battlefield to refine detection and tracking capabilities. The move underscores the growing importance of adaptive defense technologies in modern conflicts. The primary system in service is RADA’s Improved Multi-Mission Hemispheric Radar (ieMHR), designed to counter drones, aircraft, and missile threats. Compact and mobile, the radar can be deployed on vehicles or fixed positions, providing flexible coverage against a wide spectrum of aerial targets. Operational data from Ukrainian users has been instrumental in shaping new software updates and hardware adjustments. The ieMHR’s detection range spans 10 kilometers for nano-drones, 45 kilometers for medium drones, and up to 100 kilometers for large aircraft. Its precision and responsiveness make it an essential asset in areas exposed to constant aerial and missile activity. RADA’s engineers are updating radar algorithms to improve performance in heavy electronic interference and to better distinguish legitimate threats from decoys or false signals. This iterative enhancement model—driven by active combat use—has proven invaluable in helping Ukrainian forces adapt to evolving Russian drone tactics. Most of the radar systems were delivered via donations coordinated by volunteer groups, notably Lithuania’s Blue/Yellow organization, which provided several units in 2023 under Israeli Defense Ministry approval. The systems are now operational across multiple combat zones, forming a core element of Ukraine’s expanding low-altitude detection network. RADA’s partnership with Ukrainian defense operators reflects how real-world feedback loops are reshaping modern radar design and performance optimization. By merging field insights with rapid R&D cycles, the company is enhancing both product reliability and its international defense footprint.
