Indra is embedding an artificial intelligence system into its simulators that can generate tactical training scenarios in minutes—a process that formerly took days and required substantial manpower.
The company showcased this breakthrough at the Paris Air Show and is currently implementing it in new simulator models, with plans to update existing platforms progressively.
For years, simulators have been crucial for mission rehearsal, crafting highly detailed scenarios that replicate battlefield terrain and the movements of friendly and adversarial units. Historically, building these scenarios was a slow, labor-intensive task demanding expert input over weeks or months.
Indra’s AI-powered tool, based on Large Language Models, significantly speeds up scenario creation while enhancing authenticity, transforming how military training and mission prep are conducted.
Users only need to describe the mission—via text or speech—and the system automatically constructs the entire environment, including pre-set units, their routes, speeds, and alliances.
Within minutes, training can commence, and instructors can tweak elements like flight paths or vehicle formations. The AI adapts and learns from these changes to streamline future scenario design.
This capability extends Indra’s existing AI-driven simulation of aircraft and other assets in exercises and supports evolving simulation paradigms such as Live Virtual Constructive (LVC) and Modeling and Simulation as a Service (MSaaS).
Indra continues to lead AI adoption in defense, highlighted by its IndraMind platform, which maximizes operational automation and multi-domain operational advantage.
