Rosoboronexport has been granted a $248 million contract by the Indian Ministry of Defense to provide contemporary engines for the army’s T-72 Ural main battle tanks. The agreement stipulates that the Russian state-owned weapons developer will supply 1,000 horsepower engines for New Delhi’s Soviet-era vehicles. About 2,500 tanks in the military now use the legacy 780 horsepower engines that were installed when the fleet was built in the 1970s.
