
The Indian Ministry of Defense has given state-owned BEML Ltd. contracts for the manufacture of heavy-duty trailers and 8×8 high-mobility vehicles for the Indian Army. The transaction for the locally produced 8×8 vehicles is worth 1.36 billion Indian rupees ($16 million), while the purchase of military trailers will supposedly cost 835 million Indian rupees ($9.8 million). The precise number of vehicles being bought has not been revealed. The 8×8 vehicles manufactured by BEML are built with a backbone tube chassis, independent suspension, and a high-powered, air-cooled engine, guaranteeing exceptional mobility and stability on difficult terrain.
