Achieving success in today’s aerial combat with the F-35 Lightning II extends beyond speed; it hinges on high-fidelity virtual training, coordinated exercises, and global partnerships to ensure operational readiness. Recently, HII personnel at Nellis U.S. Air Force Base in Nevada joined forces with F-35 pilots from the U.S. Air Force and the Royal Australian Air Force in a coalition exercise held within the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE).
The JSE, described as the U.S. Air Force’s most realistic battlespace simulation ever, operates at the Joint Integrated Test and Training Center Nellis (JITTC-N), providing immersive, networked synthetic training. HII serves as a key contractor responsible for the software’s development, integration, and support.
The U.S. Air Force 31st Combat Training Squadron (CTS) hosted the event, designed to offer Royal Australian Air Force pilots valuable F-35 simulator experience against contractor adversary forces (Red-Air). Lessons learned were applied to improve mission execution during the subsequent 29 Test Evaluation Squadron’s Simulation Capabilities Assessment.
