Hanwha Systems has secured a ₩200 billion ($135.5 million) contract to develop the multi-function AESA radar for South Korea’s next-generation Cheongung-III (M-SAM Block-III) air and missile defense system. Signed with the Agency for Defense Development, the project runs through 2030 and represents the first major evolution of the Cheongung family since the Block-II upgrades in 2012. The fully digital AESA radar will handle detection, tracking, identification, and fire-control simultaneously, enabling faster reaction times and improved multi-target engagement. As a core sensor within Korea’s layered air defense network, the radar enhances coverage against aircraft and ballistic missile threats while reinforcing Hanwha’s growing radar portfolio across land, air, and naval platforms.
