“Germany has revealed its plan to purchase Boxer armored fighting vehicles in order to integrate main capabilities into the newly formed Medium Forces of the military.
The package includes vehicles in their 30-millimeter Remote Control turret (RCT30) variants, which German defense contractors Rheinmetall and KNDS Deutschland first unveiled in 2016.
According to local news source Hartpunkt, Berlin’s proposed budget for this future purchase is 3.9 billion euros ($4.5 billion), with 1.1 billion euros ($1.2 billion) set aside for the program’s first phases.
Under this agreement, the NATO member did not specify the number of Boxers that would be purchased, but sources predict that it would include up to 148 platforms.
The RCT30 will enhance 123 Boxers, which are being purchased under a separate contract for the military’s Heavy Weapon Carrier Infantry, based on the Australian Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle (CRV) configuration.
