Stockholm is enhancing maritime logistics with an order for four ice-capable support ships from Spain’s Freire. Built for severe Nordic conditions, the vessels will combine fuel-efficient diesel-electric systems with modern power distribution to meet strict environmental standards. With deck cranes and roll-on access via a stern ramp, they will handle cargo and vehicles without port infrastructure. The first delivery is expected by 2030, reinforcing Sweden’s wider naval modernization and sustainment initiatives.
