For the army’s ground telecommunications expansion project, Germany has given General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) a contract to supply Piranha V armored combat vehicles. The “three-digit-million range” agreement directs the deployment of 256 platforms, each of which will have a 15-meter (49-foot) Tactical Wide Area Network telescopic tower installed to serve as the force’s future connection point for mobile communications and directional radio management. By building a facility in Neubrandenburg, GDELS will support the fleet’s logistics, sustainment, and technological needs. The first tranche, consisting of 58 vehicles, will be delivered in 2026.
