Turkey is evaluating the possibility of sending F-16 fighter jets to Northern Cyprus as a precautionary measure after a drone strike targeted a British military facility on the island. The drone attack occurred in the context of escalating tensions across the Middle East, following retaliatory exchanges linked to US and Israeli military actions against Iran. Cypriot officials believe the drone was launched by Hezbollah from Lebanon rather than from Iranian territory. In response to the incident, several European nations have offered support to Cyprus, including the deployment of air defense systems. Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler emphasized that despite tensions between Ankara and Israel over issues such as the Gaza conflict and Syria, the chances of a direct military confrontation between the two countries remain extremely low.
