BAE Systems has secured a £454 million contract from the UK MoD to manufacture 38 ECRS Mk2 radar systems for Tranche 3 RAF Typhoons, enhancing target tracking and situational awareness against complex threats. The program is part of a wider £2.35 billion upgrade for the Typhoon fleet initiated in 2022. Leonardo will handle sensor production in Edinburgh and Luton, while BAE will manage aircraft integration. Entry into service is projected by 2030, coinciding with the RAF’s long-term modernization plans, including the transition toward the next-generation Global Combat Air Programme in collaboration with Italy and Japan.
