Aiming to prioritize mental resilience, the US Department of Defense has initiated the Cognitive Monitoring Program to evaluate and support the cognitive health of its personnel. The initiative examines how military members process information, adapt, and respond throughout their service lives.
The framework incorporates a computer-based test analyzing attention, memory, reasoning, and other areas, paired with a survey assessing emotional and neurological health factors like PTSD. Initial assessments are conducted at the start of a military career, with follow-ups scheduled every five years or as necessary. By building longitudinal mental profiles, the military hopes to improve early diagnosis, treatment, and long-term brain health.
