Embraer has proposed an armed variant of its C-390M Millennium for the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) tender, which seeks 60 new aircraft, offering a multi-role solution capable of performing both transport and combat missions. Equipped with underwing hardpoints, the aircraft can carry advanced stand-off weapons such as the Rudram-II air-to-surface missile and NASM-MR or other Medium-Range Anti-Ship Missiles (MRAShM), enabling anti-surface and maritime strike capabilities in coordination with the Indian Navy. Additionally, Embraer envisions the C-390M evolving into a mothership for air-launched drones, supporting swarm or autonomous UAV deployment in line with next-generation aerial warfare requirements, thereby enhancing the IAF’s operational versatility.
