The A-29 Super Tucano is set to gain enhanced counter-drone capabilities through a collaboration between aircraft manufacturer Embraer and defense technology company Valkyrie Aero. The modernization effort introduces Valkyrie’s Gunslinger system, a software-driven suite designed to assist pilots in detecting and neutralizing hostile unmanned aerial vehicles. The Gunslinger technology supports the “Find, Fix, Finish” engagement process by combining real-time sensor data with automated decision-support functions. This allows operators to quickly identify potential drone threats, track their movements, and determine the most effective engagement strategy. Rather than replacing the aircraft’s onboard sensors, the system enhances their performance by integrating advanced processing and tactical analysis capabilities. This approach improves situational awareness and speeds up response times when confronting aerial threats. As the use of drones continues to grow in modern warfare, defense planners are increasingly seeking flexible counter-UAS solutions. By equipping the Super Tucano with an intelligent targeting suite, the upgrade aims to transform the aircraft into a more capable and adaptable platform for defending against emerging drone tactics.
