The UK Ministry of Defence has awarded Serco a £7.8 million ($10 million) contract for a five-year maintenance and logistics program covering the Royal Air Force’s Eurofighter Typhoon engines. The agreement transitions engine support from a subcontracting arrangement under Rolls-Royce to a direct partnership between Serco and the RAF. Services will take place at RAF Coningsby and RAF Lossiemouth, sustaining 26 engineering and logistics roles. The Eurofighter Typhoon, jointly produced by Airbus, BAE Systems, and Leonardo, relies on twin EJ200 engines each delivering 90 kilonewtons of thrust. Lightweight yet robust, the engines enable the fighter to cruise supersonically for extended durations while withstanding high thermal and mechanical stress. Their integrated digital health monitoring allows predictive maintenance, improving safety and availability. The Typhoon has formed the backbone of UK aerial defense since 2003, executing air patrols, combat missions, and quick response alerts. The Serco contract reinforces maintenance efficiency and ensures sustained readiness as the RAF modernizes its fleet, aligning with broader efforts to maintain technological and operational excellence across UK air combat capabilities.
