Denmark has approved plans to construct five new Arctic patrol vessels to strengthen surveillance and search-and-rescue capabilities around Greenland. The ships will be produced using a distributed manufacturing model across Denmark and assembled in Frederikshavn, at a state-owned facility designed to support future large-vessel construction. The vessels are scheduled to enter service by 2030, replacing aging Thetis- and Knud Rasmussen-class ships that have suffered repeated mechanical issues. While the manufacturer has not yet been selected, a consortium led by Danske Flådeskibe is considered a strong contender.
