The United Arab Emirates’ EDGE Group, a defense manufacturer, and the French shipbuilder CMN NAVAL have formed a joint venture to produce naval ships. Headquartered in Abu Dhabi, AD NAVAL will make use of current orders worth 7 billion euros ($7.5 billion) for “small to mid-size” naval platforms, such as landing craft, trimarans, high-speed interceptors, offshore patrol vehicles, and corvettes. The alliance will also look at incorporating EDGE’s cutting-edge autonomous air and maritime systems, smart weapons, radars, and cyber solutions into ships built by AD NAVAL for naval forces outside of NATO.
