Boeing has secured an $877.7-million contract to supply MH-47G helicopters to US Special Operations Command, expanding ongoing procurement of the heavy-lift aircraft. Work will be performed primarily at Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, with completion expected by November 2030.The award follows a $240-million order placed earlier this year for five MH-47Gs, bringing the broader program total to 51 aircraft once deliveries begin in 2027. The MH-47G, based on the CH-47 Chinook, is optimized for long-range missions including troop transport, resupply, insertion, and extraction in high-risk environments. The aircraft features advanced avionics, in-flight refueling, upgraded navigation tools, and modular payload configurations. Typically crewed by five operators, it can carry up to 30 troops or 10,000 pounds of cargo. Armament options include 7.62-mm machine guns, electronic countermeasures, and laser warning systems.Powered by twin Honeywell T55-GA-714A engines, the helicopter reaches speeds of 170 knots, a 500-nautical-mile range, and altitudes up to 20,000 feet.
