Belgium has approved the acquisition of five additional Airbus H145M helicopters—three for Defence and two for the Federal Police—expanding the future combined fleet to twenty aircraft. The decision, announced after a Council of Ministers meeting, builds on previous orders under the same investment framework. Ministers Theo Francken and Bernard Quintin said the aircraft will support internal security missions and national response during major crises. The purchase follows the successful first test flight of Belgium’s initial H145M in Germany two weeks earlier. Defence will oversee maintenance, airworthiness, and fleet financing, ensuring unified management and enabling rapid availability of all twenty helicopters when required for national security tasks.
