NATO has conducted the first operational flight of an Airborne Early Warning and Control System aircraft in Finnish airspace, expanding the alliance’s surveillance and command capabilities in northern Europe. The mission formed part of NATO’s broader efforts to monitor activity across the high north and the eastern flank. It was organized by Joint Force Command Norfolk and executed under the direction of NATO Allied Air Command. The exercise involved eight Finnish F/A-18 fighter jets performing a four-on-four training scenario while receiving guidance from the AWACS aircraft.
