“India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy have test-fired a locally built underwater sea mine.
The Multi-Influence Ground Mine was created to improve the navy’s ability to defend against modern stealth boats and submarines.
It includes sensors that detect pressure, underwater electric potential/ultra low frequency electric field, magnetic, and acoustic signals produced by ships.
The 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) weapon, which is powered by a lithium-thionyl chloride battery, may be launched from vehicles such as submarines, ships, and coastal surveillance and patrol stations.
The Naval Science & Technological Laboratory of the DRDO created it in conjunction with the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory and Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory.
The manufacturing partners are Apollo Microsystems Limited and Bharat Dynamics Limited.
