Leonardo’s globally recognized C-27J multi-mission tactical transport aircraft, with over 270,000 flight hours, is gaining a new customer. Leonardo will supply two C-27J aircraft to Aramco for multi-role missions in Saudi Arabia, including cargo transport, firefighting, oil spill control, and medevac operations. Mukamalah Aviation Company, operating under the Aloula Aviation brand, will fly and maintain the aircraft, with initial deliveries starting in 2027.
This order represents the 20th C-27J operator and the first civil contract for the aircraft in its multi-mission and firefighting configuration. The deal further extends Leonardo’s footprint in the Middle East and highlights the C-27J’s adaptability for diverse mission sets. The aircraft’s success is underpinned by Leonardo’s continuous investment in upgrades, including modern avionics and customizable mission systems.
The agreement also expands Leonardo’s longstanding partnership with Aramco, previously focused on helicopters, into the fixed-wing sector.
Equipped with the second-generation MAFFS II (Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System), the C-27J Fire Fighter can be rapidly configured for firefighting missions. It can be ready within 90 minutes and features a 7,500-liter tank refillable in less than 10 minutes. The aircraft’s STOL capability, high cruising speed, and ability to access remote areas make it ideal for quick, effective firefighting even in harsh environments. Additionally, it can be deployed for disaster response and fire prevention, offering a scalable and sustainable solution aligned with Leonardo’s environmental strategy.
