On 11 December 2024, the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defence finalized a contract in Riyadh with Spanish shipbuilder Navantia for three more Avante 2200 corvettes, adding to the five already operational with the Royal Saudi Naval Forces. Construction of the first vessel will begin soon, with final delivery expected by 2028. The initial corvette will be built in Spain, while the second and third will be constructed in Saudi Arabia, where SAMINavantia—a joint venture between Saudi Arabian Military Industries and Navantia—will integrate and test the locally developed Hazem combat system.
