Germany is reported to have secured an order for more than 1,000 Mercedes-Benz Zetros military trucks to enhance Ukraine’s frontline supply and transport capabilities, FAZ reports. The move expands upon approximately 340 vehicles already delivered since the conflict began. Details of the contract have not been publicly released, and the German government has kept future support plans confidential. Daimler Truck declined comment on the deal. Deliveries are expected to proceed in stages as production increases. The Zetros is a rugged off-road vehicle designed to carry heavy payloads, including fuel, equipment, and troops, and to evacuate casualties. It has seen service in more than ten nations, with a maximum payload capacity of 25 tons. Configurations range from 4×2 to 8×8, with engines up to 510 horsepower meeting Euro III or Euro V emissions standards. Vehicles can be equipped with automatic, manual, or hybrid transmissions. FAZ notes that the Zetros is now being upgraded to support operations in “drone warfare” environments, highlighting the ongoing adaptation of logistics vehicles to modern combat conditions.
