The U.S. State Department has authorized a potential sale of Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) to Italy, valued at approximately $211 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has submitted the necessary notification to Congress regarding the proposed sale.

Italy’s request includes thirty (30) AIM-120D-3 AMRAAMs, forty (40) AIM-120C-8 AMRAAMs, and two (2) AIM-120C-7 guidance sections, along with a variety of support equipment and services. This includes spare parts, missile containers, system software, classified and unclassified documentation, training, and logistics support provided by U.S. government and contractor teams.

The sale is expected to bolster Italy’s air defense capabilities, enabling it to respond effectively to evolving threats while supporting NATO interoperability. As an existing AMRAAM user, Italy will easily integrate these new assets into its defense framework without impacting the regional military balance.

RTX Corporation of Tucson, Arizona, will serve as the principal contractor. No offset agreements are currently linked to this sale, and there are no plans to assign additional U.S. personnel to Italy for program support. The final contract value could be lower than the approved estimate, depending on Italy’s finalized requirements and funding.
