France has contracted local company SilMach for a €3 million, seven-year project to develop a shock-detection sensor for bulletproof vests. This innovative microsensor, designed for ballistic ceramic plates, identifies and logs impact damage. As ceramic armor can crack from drops, the sensor offers a visual alert to indicate whether the plate remains effective. Operating without external power, the energy-free device reduces reliance on statistical inspections, ensuring soldiers’ gear is reliable in combat zones.
