The Australian Army is significantly expanding its operational capabilities by integrating first-person view (FPV) attack drones into its training framework. Through the “Modify and Operate Attack Drones” course, personnel from combat and support units are trained not only to operate but also to assemble and customize drone systems for battlefield use. This initiative builds upon earlier programs focused on multi-role drones for reconnaissance and payload deployment. Conducted at Puckapunyal Military Area, the training equips soldiers with hands-on expertise that can be applied in real-world combined-arms exercises. The program reflects lessons learned from the Ukraine conflict, where FPV drones have proven to be cost-effective yet highly lethal tools for surveillance and strike missions.
