“General Dynamics Electric Boat has been given a $1.8 billion contract by the US Department of Defense to keep purchasing long lead time materials in support of the US Navy’s Virginia-class Block VI submarine program.
The prize is based on agreements made in 2023 ($2.2 billion), August 2024 ($1.3 billion), and April ($1.06 billion), all of which address the advanced procurement of critical components and the advanced construction work necessary for manufacturing the upcoming fleet.
Earlier in June, General Dynamics inked a separate agreement for lead yard assistance, component design, and improvements to supplier development for the submarines. Work for the contract will be carried out in California and other locations around the country.
The firm is coordinating its progress with the Naval Sea Systems Command, the US Navy’s materiel and fielding organization, and plans to have it completed by September 2035.
